Saudi Arabia Proposes Non-Aggression Pact Between Iran And Middle East States

A British newspaper has claimed that Saudi Arabia has proposed a non-aggression pact between Iran and Middle Eastern countries. According to the report, the proposal aims to reduce regional tensions following the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Moreover, diplomatic discussions on the idea are reportedly already underway.

The report, published by the Financial Times, cited diplomats as saying that Saudi Arabia has discussed the proposal with allied countries. The discussions reportedly focused on how to manage instability in the region after the end of the war involving Iran. Consequently, regional powers are said to be exploring new diplomatic frameworks to avoid future escalation.

According to the newspaper, Riyadh is considering the 1970s Helsinki process as a possible model for the proposed agreement. The Helsinki process played a major role in reducing tensions in Europe during the Cold War. In addition, Saudi officials reportedly believe a similar diplomatic structure could help ease security concerns in the Middle East.

The report further stated that Gulf countries are worried about facing a wounded but more hardline Iran after the conflict. At the same time, Gulf states are also concerned that the American military presence in the region could decline in the future. As a result, regional governments are looking for alternative security arrangements and stronger diplomatic engagement.

Diplomats quoted by the newspaper said several European countries have expressed support for the Saudi proposal. Furthermore, European governments have reportedly encouraged other Gulf nations to back the initiative as well. However, diplomats also warned that the success of any agreement would depend heavily on which countries ultimately join the pact.

According to the report, bringing Iran and Israel into the same agreement currently appears highly unlikely. Diplomats cautioned that excluding Israel from such a framework could also create additional complications for regional stability.
